Nanuet neighborhood spotlight: homes for sale near Prospect Street

Prospect Street in Nanuet runs approximately 1 mile with lots of low traffic, quiet residential streets branching off Prospect Street. The streets in this neighborhood, from the bottom of Prospect Street, which goes uphill as you travel west, include Babcock Avenue, Jerrys Avenue, Freemont Avenue, Fairview Avenue, Floyd Place (Paper Street) North Park Avenue, South Park Avenue, Carrie Lane as well as North and South Lexow Avenue

At the peak of Prospect’s hill is a 4 way stop sign which intersects Grandview Avenue. Homes on the eastside of Grandview offer spectacular bird’s eye views from the Nanuet Mall all the way to the Nanuet High school. On the west side of Grandview Avenue, Prospect Street continues with intersecting streets such as North and South Edsall Avenue, Caravella Lane, North and South Park Lane, Briar Road and Will Rogers Lane. All offering wonderful family- friendly neighborhoods.

The homes in this neighborhood running off Prospect Street are mostly modest in size such as cape cods and ranches. These starter style homes make it a great, affordable neighborhood for first time home buyers and young families.

I grew up on Grandview Avenue, at the top of Prospect’s hill. For me and my friends growing up, Prospect Street was always the thrilling hill on which to ride our bikes. And the personal challenge of riding back up hill without stopping to walk the bike up.

At the bottom of Prospect Street is the Nanuet commuter parking lot, Nanuet train station train station, the Nanuet Fire department, Post office and just a bit further, Main Street where Martios Pizza and the Nanuet Mall are located.

The northern most end of Grandview Avenue intersects with Route 59 for great shopping and quick food and a quick entrance to the New York State Thruway.

Newport Estates

This subdivision was built 1978 and construction continued into the early 80’s. The predominant home style in Newport Estates is the Center Hall Colonial or Contemporary Colonial. If you are looking for neighborhoods in Nanuet that offer more space between homes check out Newport Estates, lots from .40 acre to .79 acre of private, partly wooded yards.

The homes range in square footage from 2300 to 4900 sq ft. Newport Colonials lead to a grand foyer entrance, a formal dining room and formal living room. Most family rooms feature a brick fireplace. These homes can have a bonus room on 1st level which could be 5th bedroom or home-office. Spring time accentuates a home’s curb appeal. This is why real estate activity also blossoms this time of year . As a real estate agent, my office is more than just a desk and a phone. My office is the tree-lined streets of Nanuet. This time of year I always remember to carry my camera with me. While I am out visiting homeowners or showing properties to buyers I always stop to appreciate the bursting colors. Here are a few pictures I snapped this week while walking on Meridan Lane, Oakland Place and Amarillo Drive in Nanuet. Just another great reason to live in Nanuet! These three streets are moments away from the Palisades Parkway.

More Nanuet Snow Fall??

We woke up to more snow in Nanuet this morning! Its March 24th for crying out loud. Mr G. from the channel 11 news just exclaimed this winter has unfolded as the second snowiest winter on record. My puppy Dazzo daydreams about warmer days to come. I took this picture outside our home on Grandview Avenue in Nanuet. The insert is from Children’s Park in Chestnut Ridge (Dexter Park.) Children’s park is a few blocks away from Nanuet and has a wide open field for Dazzo. Every day has her day! It is a pet friendly park but leashes are a must. If you are an early riser you can meet other dogs and their owners saturday mornings at 7am for some free time puppy play. It’s a great way for pet owners to acquaint their dogs with other Rockland County pets.

If you ever see me out for a stroll in Nanuet with Dazzo feel free to say hello and ask me “How’s the market?” (While Nanuet real estate is our specialty we are in tune with all of Rockland County real estate.)
